I think you may be missing an "S" that would make a huge difference to your question.
"Weeds" is one (though not really accurate) way to describe the wild spinach-like plants that many of the black cultures in SA and other african countries use. One of the commonly used terms is "marog" or "morogo". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinach#Other_species_called_spinach
