I would like to go to Africa or some other country to help out with a volunteer humanitarian cause but don’t know how. Are their any groups I could get involved with that would pay for the flight their and back and any other major expenses, because I don’t really have the money to spare. What are the general requirements?
Organizations that don’t charge fees for volunteering, such as VSO Canada, UN Volunteers and the PeaceCorps are looking for people who can work (read, write and speak) in a language other than English, who have skills and experience that can lead to local people generating income, better feeding their families, improving children’s health, etc., or that can lead to the transformation of key institutions, such as government, universities/schools or NGOs. They are looking for people who can commit to a two-year assignment, who have experience working with under-served communities, or who have a lot of experience in very diverse or religiously-conservative communities. The average age of volunteers in these organizations is over 30 (for UNVs, it’s 38) and most not only have degrees, they also have grad degrees. The goal is to give local people jobs and to keep money local, not to give Westerners a feel-good vacation — hence why short-term placement agencies charge volunteers, or require these volunteers to pay their own way (flights, in-country transportation, health insurance, accommodation, food, security, translators, training, staff to supervise and support them in their service, liaisons with the police and local officials, etc.).
Here is a web site that can help you learn more about the skills and experience desired by long-term placement organizations, and how you can gain that experience locally.

There is a listing of the more-than-30 member organizations of the International Volunteers Program Association (IVPA) that is a good place to find reputable volunteer-for-a-fee programs — programs where you don’t need to have much experience in order to participate, and the placements are just for a few weeks or months:

I have heard that tvi express is a good thing to make money with?
I will be moving to South Africa soon and need to make contact with tvi express south africa. Does anyone know who is the best people to contact for tvi south africa?
HiI had the same feeling about TV Express South Africa in the beginning and thought it was just another scheme for people to try and get rich quick. Once I had a good luck at it and discussed this with some of my friends, I felt more assured about it and joined through this site: http://tviexpress.co.za/
Really was impressed with the support and training – have made some money, but not a lot yet as I am still new. Try them: http://tviexpress.co.za/
They are really good

The British extended their rule over South Africa and spawned racism which was a big part of the Apartheid. How are they exactly connected?
Racism was used to justify colonialism. The idea was that white people were superior to black people, therefore it was okay to invade, kill off anyone who resisted, and declare it a colony, since the white people were "civilizing" these "backwards" natives. -

Well Im only 13 going on 14. And one of my life goals is to go Africa and help build a school with other volunteers. I know I cant do it now since Im a minor. But maybe during high school or college. Would I have to pay for joining the organizations? Would I have to pay for a plane flight and meet everyone a certain place? How long would I be there and where would we live in for that certain amount of time? Do I need to speak the languages there?
I do volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and The Fuller Center for Housing (that’s how I got my nickname!), so I can share how it’s worked for me with them.
You don’t pay to join these two organizations.
You do pay for your own airfare and meet the rest of the group in a certain place. You also pay a fee which covers your expenses while on the ground (housing, food, transportation) as well as a donation to the local organization to help with their work.
The trips generally last one to three weeks; most volunteers can’t give more time than that at once.
As for housing, most of the trips I’ve been on have put us in shared rooms in a non-luxury hotel; for my most recent trip, the organization rented the upper half of a duplex for the summer to house the teams of volunteers that were coming in. However, I’ve read of trips where the teams stayed in gymnasiums or tents….. On some trips, provisions have been made for prepared meals to be provided, while on others, the team cooks for itself.
Speaking the language is helpful but generally not required. I’ve found that I get more out of the experience if I’m able to speak with the people I’m helping. On my trips, there has always been at least one person who spoke both languages – but if that person is busy doing something else, you don’t have an interpreter at that moment!Habitat for Humanity has very limited opportunities for people under 18, due to liability concerns. Minors can’t operate power tools. There are supervision requirements; a group volunteering must have one adult per specified number of minors. We’ve had high school groups come in and do landscaping, install closet shelves, things like that. Habitat has an active college program; in fact, two of the colleges in our area have their own campus chapters and one of them has done amazing things in the fundraising area as well as actual construction labor.
I applaud your goal and hope you have the opportunity to achieve it.

Every year I hear that so many people are immigrating from South Africa to Vancouver, Canada. What will I need to meet these requirements? Do you have any tips for me?
There are several website dedicated to help people to immigrate to Canada. One of them is softlandings.com I think, but they charge you for their services. Just do a search on immigration canada. There is also a support group and network for SA ppl immigrating there, I think I found it under SA immigrate Canada. -

Are people not aware that South Africa is run by a government that are as racist as Mugabe and have a history of violent extremeism? Are do they have the West wraped round their little finger with how wonderful everyone seems to think Nelson Mandela is?
We are not surprised at all..!!
Not only is SA not doing anything but neither is the rest of the world!! -

I am doing a geography project about Africa with my group. I already got some events down but I need at least 5 more. Can some please tell me what are the 5 important events that have happened in Africa? Years don’t matter. Thanks!
Wow, that’s a little broad and you’re talking about dozens of countries.- the Arab conquest of the Maghreb
- Apartheid – its beginning and end
- the partition of Africa by colonial powers (1880-1914)
- the political independence movements (1960s-1970s)
- Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs) by the IMF/World Bank in the 80s
- Rwanda, Somalia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, DR Congo, Angola – wars and ethnic cleansing
