I’m going to be traveling alone soon and I’m kinda nervouse and basically thinking of every flaw in flying alone…but do permanent retainers set off airport security things? Its kind of a small metal peice behind my bottom teeth…any idea if it is enough metal to set one off?
usually braces and retainers do not. If it does, no big deal. tell them what you have in your mouth, they wills weep you with the wand and when it doesn’t set off anywhere but at your mouth they’ll let you go through. No worries, they are used to this type of thing as well as metal hips, plates and screws in body parts etc.

I have a flight on October 8th, 2009 and I am wondering if I am going to have to remove any facial piercings when going through the metal detector at the Airport for their security check point? I have 3 lip piercings. Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thank!
No you’ll be fine. And if it does go off odds are its not your piercing going off it’ll be something metal in your pockets. And if you are hand wanded they won’t run if over your face because they can see by looking at your face that you are not hiding anything in your lips. And you can always ask for a private screening or to not go through the metal detector at all (you can ask for a pat down instead) and if they try to tell you otherwise ask for a supervisor. -

These airport security machines don’t even display your acutal skin.
They only display the shape of your nude body. Why is there so much outrage over that, but complete cooperation over medical doctors seeing their patients naked?
They are both done for safety reasons.
How is this any different?
Security at the airport gets paid (near) minimum wage.Doctors are under HIPAA regulations.
You know your doctor’s name.
You personally benefit from a doctor’s visit, others benefit at the security checkpoint, – at your ‘expense’.

I was wondering if you could go through airport security with stud earrings on? I can’t take my cartilage piercings out yet, or my second ones on my ear lobe. Will the thing go off because there a type of metal? There white gold, and gold.
yes you can go through airport security with any type of earrings in. (stud, hoops, dangley…it doesn’t matter)and if the detector does go off they will know its cuz of your earrings.they won’t make you take them off.
but i’ve never set it off with my earrings so i doubt it will get set off. -

What happens if TSA (airport security) find illigal materials in your checked bag such as Lockpics or mabey even a automatic OSL double action switch blade?
well as an electrical engineer I have flown many times carrying my tool bag (containing a stanley razor knife, wire cutters, screwdrivers and handtools of all sorts) and I have run this drill many times….heres what will happen….If you disclose FROM THE start that you have the items (lockpicks are not illegal if you are a locksmith—-same with knives if youre a manufacturer) you will be whisked away to a room, then questioned, searched, questioned again, searched again, and then questioned again, again. When they are finished, you have either explained yourself and shown that you have a right and reason to carry these items or you have not, and they will let you fly or not based on what you tell and show them. If they let you fly—they will seal youre bag and carry it to the plane for you when they escort you to the gate and you wont touch that bag again until you land.
If you do not disclose the items and they "discover" them, again you get whisked to a room, but this time its to interrogate you. If they let you fly, they will almost certainly confiscate your "things". If they do not let you fly, they may elect to hold you or have you arrested and press charges against you. Then you go to airport jail or police jail and maybe you lose your right to fly on that airline, and perhaps you get banned from the airport. too.
If you do not disclose, and they do not find them, then you board the plane with your contraband.

I’m recently flying out of the country. I’m a little insecure about my wheight and wear a girdle most of the time. I was wondering if girdles ring or beep in airport security? I’m very nervous to fly with it on incase anything does happen.
IF it has underwire it may beep. This happened to me. -

I know this may sound like a bit of an odd question but I’m someone who once got stopped at airport security because she had ducktape in her bag so I’d rather be safe then sorry and humiliated.
Do they allow condoms to go through airport security for domestic flights in South Africa? I mean do they allow to keep them if they in your baggage?
As long as they arnt stuffed full of stuff and hidden in your stomach.lol -

I am a diabetic and will be flying to New Jersey in two weeks. The MDS. and needles that I am taking with me have to be in my purse at all times. The doctor gave me 2 letters for airport security. Will they keep my letter? What will I have to do? Does anyone have any answers for me ? Do I wait until I get in line to show the letter to them?
What do I do?
I also travel with insulin pens (at least 2, and often more), needles, alcohol swabs, BG meter, lancets, test strips, glucagon injection set for emergencies – the whole 9 yards. I carry it all in a fanny pack that is usually inside my backpack when I go through the security checkpoint, and I carry extra everything in my carry on suitcase. I also have photocopies of the prescription labels in the fanny pack as well (I don’t carry the pens, needles and test strips in their original boxes – too bulky, so I photocopy the prescription label that is on each box).I carry multiple rolls of glucose tablets, including 1 roll that is always in a pants pocket (does not cause any problem going through the metal detector, or course). I also often bring an apple or some other non-liquid type, prepackaged snack with me. If the plane sits on the runway for 2 hours, you do not want to be vulnerable to a low.
In the many times I have flown with these items, I have never, ever been asked about any of it. I just put the backpack into a bin and let it go through the x-ray machine. It is fine to carry the letter with you. The TSA folks will not take it away from you if they ever ask to see it (and I doubt very much that they will even ask).
Please don’t worry about this. Remember that thousands of people with medical equipment fly every day through every airport. What TSA sees inside your bag on the x-ray image will be no different than any items they have seen hundreds of times before.
If they want to do a closer inspection of your bag, they won’t usually tell you what they are curious about, but that would be the time I would show them the letter.
I have never told the airline that I am diabetic, never requested a special meal, never filled out any forms for anyone, never had any problems that needed anyone else’s attention. If you’re traveling with someone, then they certainly should know of your condition. You should wear a Medic-Alert bracelet or necklace. Don’t be shy about testing your blood sugar in the airport or in the plane – I have done both many times, and given myself injections as well. Be discreet, but it is important that you take as good care of yourself while traveling as you do at home, so test and inject when it is appropriate for you.
If you are reasonably well controlled, and are not prone to having extreme lows that catch you off-guard, then I would not worry in the least.
Hope you have an enjoyable trip.

it probably wont be that much different than the other days after that horrible event, unless something arises. -

How do you get video tape and camera film through airport security with out it being damaged?
Generally if your film is slower than about ISO800, it won’t be damaged. That’s all the film that’s sold in grocery stores, department stores, etc. If you have film that’s ISO1600 or faster (which you can only buy in a camera store) it may be damaged. With any type of film, you are allowed to request that it be hand-inspected, instead of putting it through the x-ray machine. So if you’re really concerned, you can do that.
