• I’m recently flying out of the country. I’m a little insecure about my wheight and wear a girdle most of the time. I was wondering if girdles ring or beep in airport security? I’m very nervous to fly with it on incase anything does happen.

IF it has underwire it may beep. This happened to me.

  • I know this may sound like a bit of an odd question but I’m someone who once got stopped at airport security because she had ducktape in her bag so I’d rather be safe then sorry and humiliated.

Do they allow condoms to go through airport security for domestic flights in South Africa? I mean do they allow to keep them if they in your baggage?

As long as they arnt stuffed full of stuff and hidden in your stomach.lol

  • I am a diabetic and will be flying to New Jersey in two weeks. The MDS. and needles that I am taking with me have to be in my purse at all times. The doctor gave me 2 letters for airport security. Will they keep my letter? What will I have to do? Does anyone have any answers for me ? Do I wait until I get in line to show the letter to them?
    What do I do?

I also travel with insulin pens (at least 2, and often more), needles, alcohol swabs, BG meter, lancets, test strips, glucagon injection set for emergencies – the whole 9 yards. I carry it all in a fanny pack that is usually inside my backpack when I go through the security checkpoint, and I carry extra everything in my carry on suitcase. I also have photocopies of the prescription labels in the fanny pack as well (I don’t carry the pens, needles and test strips in their original boxes – too bulky, so I photocopy the prescription label that is on each box).

I carry multiple rolls of glucose tablets, including 1 roll that is always in a pants pocket (does not cause any problem going through the metal detector, or course). I also often bring an apple or some other non-liquid type, prepackaged snack with me. If the plane sits on the runway for 2 hours, you do not want to be vulnerable to a low.

In the many times I have flown with these items, I have never, ever been asked about any of it. I just put the backpack into a bin and let it go through the x-ray machine. It is fine to carry the letter with you. The TSA folks will not take it away from you if they ever ask to see it (and I doubt very much that they will even ask).

Please don’t worry about this. Remember that thousands of people with medical equipment fly every day through every airport. What TSA sees inside your bag on the x-ray image will be no different than any items they have seen hundreds of times before.

If they want to do a closer inspection of your bag, they won’t usually tell you what they are curious about, but that would be the time I would show them the letter.

I have never told the airline that I am diabetic, never requested a special meal, never filled out any forms for anyone, never had any problems that needed anyone else’s attention. If you’re traveling with someone, then they certainly should know of your condition. You should wear a Medic-Alert bracelet or necklace. Don’t be shy about testing your blood sugar in the airport or in the plane – I have done both many times, and given myself injections as well. Be discreet, but it is important that you take as good care of yourself while traveling as you do at home, so test and inject when it is appropriate for you.

If you are reasonably well controlled, and are not prone to having extreme lows that catch you off-guard, then I would not worry in the least.

Hope you have an enjoyable trip.

  • how will airport security be today due to it being the 8 year annivesrary of 9/11? how much more tight?

it probably wont be that much different than the other days after that horrible event, unless something arises.

  • How do you get video tape and camera film through airport security with out it being damaged?

Generally if your film is slower than about ISO800, it won’t be damaged. That’s all the film that’s sold in grocery stores, department stores, etc. If you have film that’s ISO1600 or faster (which you can only buy in a camera store) it may be damaged.

With any type of film, you are allowed to request that it be hand-inspected, instead of putting it through the x-ray machine. So if you’re really concerned, you can do that.

  • I’m flying out of Baltimore to Disney Word and want to have my 9 month old in a snugli on my chest in the airport. Will this be a hassle going through security?

i brought my 2 and a 1/2 month and held her in the sling, and they made me take her out, fold the stroller, remove my shoes, and place the car seat along with the diaper bag on the belt with absolutely no help. it will be a hassle but it has to be done, try to bring as little as possible through the gate because it can be a struggle. the second time i traveled with my daughter she was 13months and i bought a harness so she could walk but the also made me take her out of that, but i was smarter the second time around i bought a smaller light weight umbrella stroller and booked the car seat along with my luggage.

  • I am flying with my cat from NYC to LA soon. I am carrying him on the plane. The part I’m really worried about is taking him out of the carrier to go through security while the carrier is x-rayed. My cat HATES the carrier and aggressively fights against being put into it. I’m afraid he’ll get out of my arms and escape in the airport. Does anyone have any ideas for getting him through that, without sedation? Also, on JetBlue the maximum dimensions are 8" high, 12" wide, and 13" long. If anyone has suggestions for a good soft-sided carrier that fits those dimensions please let me know. He’s a huge cat, so I’m worried about stuffing him in there, but I really have no choice. Thanks!
    Sorry, it’s 17" long, not 13"!

If you can find a nice and comfortable cat harness, to put on him, then you’ll probably feel more comfortable taking him out, knowing that he won’t get away, maybe if you take a soft blanket or a blanket he likes and put it in the carrier he’ll feel more comfortable. My cat has had to be on a plane alot, just find a big and padded carrier, at a local target, walmart, etc. and i think you’ll be set. have a safe trip!

  • I just got a frenum piercing on 6/5/08. I have a trip planned to fly from Denver to Baltimore on 7/20. Will I have any issues going through airport security? Should I tell them before I go through the metal detector that I have a genital piercing? Any advice to avoid issues would be helpful. Thanks.

I have 26 piercings. While none of my genital piercings are fitted with surgical steel, the vast majority of my other jewelry is.

I have gone through two sets of airport security and the local courthouse’s metal detectors without a peep. Even at Six Flags, I don’t set off the detector. You should be fine.

  • I’m aware of the fact that I can bring an empty water bottle with me to the airport, but I’m assuming that the type of water bottles the TSA is addressing are the plastic and clear/translucent water bottles — these aluminum bottles are pretty recent. Since the security may not be able to see that my bottle is empty instantly, I’m wondering if they’ll even let it go through.

So, can aluminum water bottles go through airport security? And please back up your answers with proof!

Yes – I take my SIGG whenever I fly. The x-ray can see that it is empty.
