Can someone please explain what a labor union is, and the benefits of being part of one, as well as the following question: How are labor unions important in the USA today?
I am writing a paper for a college scholarship, and I just need some info, anything would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I suggest you google this issue or go to a library. However, it has been labor unions that ruined the auto, steel and paper industries in the United States. They have also ruined themselves except for those that are in the service industries like the SWEA union which can’t move as they service service industries here in the United States. We lost our auto and steel industries to foreign countries where unions are not allowed and the labor is controlled by their government and their government controlled wage scales (China, India, Japan etc.). They got so greedy that they drove the industries that were supporting them out of this country. This is one reason General Motors and Chrysler failed and our country is in bad shape economically. The other reasons are our stupid economic policies, manipulation of foreign currencies by China and Japan, and our governments not putting tariffs on imports like the Chinese and Japanese do to protect their industries..

My company is sending our department on a retreat for a week. My older married male co-worker who has a baby and I are are planning to extend our trip to another place alone. We are very friendly with each other, we are always IMing each other during and after work hours. Sometimes we flirt. I do have a boyfriend. So nothing is really going on. But can a male and female just be friends and go off on a trip alone? Thanks.

no, even if you just think it’s innocent flirting, let me tell you something.. it’s not (on his part, at least).

guys think they’re gonna get sex from girls even when the girl doesn’t flirt with him.. imagine now with you two texting back and forth and flirting?

if you go, you will both be tempted. it’s easy to get swept up in the moment, especially on vacation. do you really want to be the ‘homewrecker’ for some guy you’re not in love with? or have an awkward work relationship afterward?

i’m not saying you have bad intentions, but he is married and he should have the decency to respect his wife and child. and if he won’t.. then you should try putting yourself in his wife’s position. home everyday taking care of the baby while her husband is off with some pretty young thing.. it’s not fair. you wouldn’t want your dad doing that to your family or your husband doing that to you.

Passports are issued by governments of countries to identify the holder as a national (citizen) of that country. For example, a U.S. passport holder is a U.S. citizen. People who travel outside their own country are often required to show their passport to the country they are visiting.

Green cards are a U.S.-specific form of identification that the U.S. government issues to non-U.S. persons (legal aliens) which enables a legal alien to work legally in the U.S.

I want to go to Japan during 2010 through YFU (I’m in highschool.) How would this effect my education? And if I do choose to go through with the program, would it be likely I would be kept down for a year once I return home?

If you are set on studying in Japan as an exchange student, and are prepared to go along with all the work that is involved, you should be fine once you return home.
By being prepared ahead of time, the chances of things going badly are minimal. I myself have been on numerous study tours to Japan, and it is indeed a very, very educational experience. I did take some of my own textbooks over there, so I could study when I wasn’t in Japanese classes over there. This kept my education at a high standard so I was fine coming back.

It does depend on how long you are planning to study over there for. I went for half a year, and I managed fine. But good luck if you go ahead with the program, I wish you all the best!

I would absolutely love to go there really soon but seeing as I am only 15 and have no means on income besides babysitting, the possibility is very shallow. Is there any way I can go there for a vacation of some sort without having to pay nearly 10 thousand dollars? I have tried to enter contests that the prize is a trip there, but have been unsucessfull.

15 is a bit young: you would need not only your passport but also possibly a note from you parents – and a visa.I’d suggest you check the British Embassy website and ask about whatever programs may be available for teens ( school exchange programs or whatever). Plus, it doesn’t cost 10,000 to go over for a visit. A plane ticket (return) is perhaps 1,000$ (check with Expedia.com). And if you find a family to live with, then cheaper still to stay over. For a brief stay, you might want to check couchsurfing.com.
